UNC Health Rockingham Announces the Retirement of President and CEO Steve Eblin

Eden, NC — March 6, 2025 —After a distinguished career spanning over four decades in healthcare leadership, Steve Eblin, president and CEO of UNC Health Rockingham announced his plan to retire, effective December 23, 2025.

UNC Health Statewide President Tammy Scarborough shared, “From day one since joining UNC Health Rockingham (UNCHR) in Oct. 2019, Steve has been an integral part of the success at UNCHR and has created a strong culture through the example he sets each day. Under his leadership, UNC Health Rockingham has seen significant improvement in quality care and organizational culture.”

Throughout his tenure, Eblin has been a champion for patient-centered care, teammate and provider relationships, and community health. Some of his achievements include:

• Leading the way in establishing a culture of trust and accountability
• Improving quality and patient safety with significant increases in quality metrics that put UNC Health Rockingham among the top hospitals in the UNC Health system
• Leading the way in the response to the Covid pandemic, bringing together teammates and providers to provide life-saving care to so many in Rockingham County

Eblin’s leadership has not only transformed UNC Health Rockingham, but also positively impacted the broader healthcare landscape in North Carolina throughout his 30-years of dedicated service and excellence.

A search for Eblin’s successor will be announced in the coming months.
