James Austin Health Center - Compassion Healthcare

History

Compassion Health Care, Inc. began in 1978 with a bold and heartfelt mission: to provide accessible, quality health care to the residents of rural Caswell County, North Carolina. Founded as Caswell Family Medical Center, Inc., the organization opened its doors in Yanceyville to meet the growing need for primary care in an area with limited health resources. From the beginning, the focus was on compassionate, community-based care delivered with dignity and respect for all.

Over the years, the health center grew in both size and services, adapting to meet the evolving needs of the community. In 2019, to further expand access to care, the organization opened its second location: James Austin Health Center in Eden, NC. This expansion allowed Compassion Health Care to begin serving patients in Rockingham County with the same level of dedication and commitment to whole-person health.

Recognizing the importance of early and convenient access to care for children and families, Compassion Health Care also launched a School-Based Health Center (SBHC) in Caswell County. This mobile program brings care directly to students in all schools across the county, helping to reduce health-related barriers to learning and development.

Today, with three locations and a wide range of integrated services, including primary care, behavioral health, psychiatry, substance use recovery, urgent care, and more, Compassion Health Care, Inc. continues to uphold its founding mission: to provide excellent patient-centered healthcare to all. This mission allows CHC to serve with compassion, promote wellness, and ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to health care.
